Proper nutrition is essential in developing muscles and energy for learning new skills. If a child has specific nutrition needs (such as food allergies), a plan will be developed in cooperation with the family, child’s physician, and a consulting nutritionist to assure that those needs are met while at the center.

Los Pasitos participates and follows all regulations provided in the Child and Adult Care food Program (CACFP). Through this program the State of New Mexico provides funding for healthy meals and snacks to be served to children in day care settings, including the recommended daily servings as stated in the food guide pyramid for toddlers and pre-schoolers. Los Pasitos serves breakfast, lunch and two snacks a day to children 12 months through 5 years of age. Infants 6 weeks through 12 months will be offered a “House” formula which is Enfamil with iron and lipil, and if age appropriate, infants will be given iron fortified cereal and baby foods. If you would like your infant to receive a different type of formula you must provide it for them.

While infants are fed baby foods, Los Pasitos contract to provide meals suited to the ages of the other children. Hot meals and snacks are served “family style”, which means children eat together around a table. Meals are carefully planned and can be found posted at the center. An important daily routine, mealtime, is viewed as an excellent opportunity for learning.

Los Pasitos also prohibits any outside foods from being brought into the daycare by parents, unless approved by the center director for a special occasion such as a birthday.
